Team
The Heart-Centered Academy team has extensive knowledge and experience in directing, coordinating, and teaching students with special needs in both the general education and self-contained classrooms as well as mentoring teachers in various learning environments. Continuing education is paramount to ensure that strategies and techniques are implemented to the best of the team’s abilities.

Executive Director
Mrs. Melissa Coleman
As a graduate of the University of Richmond in 2006, Mrs. Coleman soon began her teaching career in education. While pursuing her dream in teaching, she's held various positions within the special education field such as: Resource Center Director, Section 504 Plan Coordinator, Special Education Testing Coordinator, Educational Specialist, Diagnostician, and Designee. In her free time, Mrs. Coleman enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, Benny and Bradley. She also enjoys a good cup of tea and times of laughter with friends.
Learning Specialist
Miss Naaliyah (LiLi) Thomas
Miss Thomas is a graduate of Virginia Union University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in English. As a current elementary public school teacher, she extends her love for teaching as a part-time Learning Specialist at Heart-Centered Academy. Miss Thomas is full of fun, creativity, and knowledge. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.


Learning Specialist
Mrs. Emily Rees
Mrs. Rees received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Mary Washington. During her undergraduate studies, she was a student in the College of Education at UMW and continued into a graduate degree program to obtain her Masters of Elementary Education in 2021. She has her Virginia Postgraduate Professional Teaching License in PreK through 6th grades. She was an elementary educator for multiple years before working with Heart-Centered Academy. She enjoys the sport of rugby and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Jessyca Zeid
Mrs. Zeid is a passionate Special Education Teacher with over 10 years of experience helping students close learning gaps through innovative online tools. With a background in special education, psychology, and criminology, she simplifies complex topics into engaging and fun lessons. A lifelong learner, Mrs. Zeid stay up-to-date with the latest digital trends to make learning easy and enjoyable for every child!

Miss Makayla Stover
Miss Stover is a current college student who is pursuing her degree in Elementary Education. She has a passion for teaching upper elementary students. As she comes from a family of teachers, the gift of teaching was passed down to her. During her free time, Miss Stover enjoys being outside, hanging out with family and friends, and reading. Miss Stover said that she is "so thankful to work at Heart-Centered Academy and can’t wait to see all of the amazing things God has in store" for her.

Paraeducator
Miss Leslie Altman
Miss Altman is a current college student pursuing her degree in nursing. She comes from a large family of teachers and has grown to understand the importance of providing stellar support to teachers. Miss Altman is a great help in ensuring our specialists are fully supported and takes the initiative in helping keep the Center organized. Her kindness and willingness to help others succeed is a blessing to Heart-Centered Academy. During her free time, Miss Altman enjoys spending time with her family and reading.
